Stronger energy savings proposed by the EU |

A leaked draft copy of the European Commission´s forthcoming Directive on Energy Efficiency - due to be published in June 2011 - proposes stronger energy savings obligations on end use sectors. Notably these include a proposal to require retail energy sales companies or distribution system operators to make final energy savings of 1.5% annually. An exemption would be allowed for small companies and operators. EU Governments would be left to design their own national obligation schemes to ensure this target is met. |

De Tuinwijk neighbourhood, Groningen, The Netherlands
