Terraced houses in Hamburg-Lurup

In the western part of Hamburg the Brachvogel eG founded a new residential area. 11 of the 45 new apartments were build as terrace houses conforming passive house standard while the other buildings were designed as low-energy houses.

The principals requested a faced brickwork according to the typical appearance of buildings in Northern Germany although this design has been considered inapplicable for passive houses at this time. Working on a very detailed level, the planners succeeded in reducing thermal bridges to a minimum and achieving passive house standard.
The result were 2,5 storey houses with shed roofs and a compact structure without any jutties.
All houses are connected to the district heating grid of Hamburg. Furthermore, the porches on the southern faces of the buildings are combined with photovoltaic modules, thus not only providing a shading effect during summer, but also generating electrical power up to 8 kWP.
